Laurel Highlands Guide Services is the Laurel Highlands area premier guide service for fly fishing on the Youghiogheny River. Their guides are licensed by Pennsylvania's Department of Nature Resources and Fish Commission to guide you on the beautiful stretch of the Youghiogheny River from Confluence to Ohiopyle. Friends of the Cheat was formed in 1994 “To Restore, Preserve, and Promote the outstanding natural qualities of the Cheat River Watershed” in Preston County, West Virginia. Since then we've been working to maintain and improve the quality of life along the Cheat River, through Acid Mine Drainage Projects, Invasive Species Eradication, community outreach, and working to acquire abandoned rail corridors and turn them into safe hiking and biking trails. Mountain Watershed Association (MWA) was founded in 1994 to protect, conserve and restore the Indian Creek watershed in Fayette and Westmoreland Counties, Pennsylvania. In 2003, MWA became the Youghiogheny Riverkeeper, expanding the vision of the organization into the larger Youghiogheny River basin. Friends of Ohiopyle (FOO) was formed in November of 2005 to provide the already extremely active volunteers of Ohiopyle State Park in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, additional facets through which to contribute to the conservation and preservation of the lands and waters of the Commonwealth within the park. FOO was formed as a chapter of the Pennsylvania Parks and Forest Foundation (PPFF). PPFF is a private, non-profit organization that works to develop resources which complement the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) in the areas of State Parks and Forests through the actions of people and assets. The Allegheny Trail Alliance (ATA) is a coalition of seven trail organizations in southwestern Pennsylvania and western Maryland, building the Great Allegheny Passage, a 150-mile multiple use rail-trail system between Cumberland, Maryland and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the 52-mile Montour Trail to provide a connection to the Pittsburgh International Airport. The Passage is now connected to the 184.5 mile C & O Canal Towpath in Cumberland and provides a non-motorized, nearly level trail system between Washington, DC and McKeesport, PA. The Great Allegheny Passage is a segment of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail, one of eight nationally designated scenic trails.
